My Therapeutic Approach
“We don't have to do all of it alone.
We were never meant to”
-Brené Brown
My intention in our work together is to see you, understand you, and challenge you to grow. With theoretical foundations rooted in psychodynamic, humanistic, and existential tenets, I explore the impacts of early childhood attachments on present day relational patterns. Often times, the ways parents, friends, romantic partners relate to us can have an impact on how we respond to present day relationships and how we view ourselves. By understanding your past and present, we will have more freedom and choice to shape your future.
From a multicultural framework, aspects of our identity like our ethnicity, race, gender expression, sexual orientation, body size, immigrant status, socioeconomic status, and religious/spiritual identities can be areas in which we hold power and privilege or are oppressed and marginalized. I want to know about all facets of your sociocultural identities to help me better understand how you live through and experience the world.
While therapy can often focus on what is not going well in your life, I also encourage us to discuss your personal strengths, support systems, and passions. I utilize CBT to help us better understand how your thoughts and feelings influence your behaviors and vice versa. Through mindfulness techniques, I help my clients feel more grounded and connected to the present and less stressed and anxious.
